Upon the invitation of Philippine Retirement Authority General Manager Bienvenido K. Chy, Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo in an exclusive presentation cited the many reasons why Dumaguete City is the best place for the Japanese retirees to spend their post-retirement years in the City of Gentle People during the recent international promotional campaign by the PRA at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, which is Japan’s largest event for information on long stay overseas.
Mayor Remollo spoke during the seminar participated by Japanese long stay lovers to introduce the retiree and expat life in Dumaguete City emphasizing that the city provides retirees with adequate and affordable food, modern and affordable medical facilities and services, secure housing, thriving leisure and entertainment venues and choices, infrastructure is adequate based on western standards and reasonable cost in transportation.
In 2018, PRA deemed the City of Dumaguete as the Best Place to Retire in the Philippines as it scored 97.48 in accordance with the criteria set by international organizations like the United Nations, World Health Organization and International Living.
Earlier, in 2014, Forbes magazine recognized the city as the 5th best place to retire in the world.
Impressed with the presentation of Mayor Remollo, several participants pledged to visit or invest in Dumaguete City.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan Atty. Mylene Garcia-Albano also hosted Mayor Remollo at the embassy with other diplomats and PRA officials.
GM Chy noted that Dumaguete City is considered one of the Philippines’ Retirement Areas Deemed as Retiree-Friendly (RADAR) and that Long Stay Foundation estimated that more than 300, 000 Japanese aged 50-69 years old are traveling abroad for extended periods of stay with the Philippines ranked 3rd country of choice among Japanese retirees.
