For the first time in the history of the province of Negros Oriental, the City of Dumaguete was allocated the biggest share among the component LGUs of Negros Oriental in the country’s annual budget for Fiscal Year 2023 with P 828 million worth of infrastructure projects to be funded by the national government.
Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo said that P 600 million allocated for various river control facilities (including from Banilad to Cantil-e) to protect lives and properties against flood while P 228 million were allotted to ensure safe and reliable roads, support social services, promote sports tourism and barangay facilities.
In a letter dated December 23, 2022 (received December 28, 2022) the 2nd District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways furnished Mayor Remollo the list of the approved 18 projects amounting to P 828 million to be undertaken by the agency based on the General Appropriation Act of FY 2023 within the jurisdiction of Dumaguete City, which is unprecedented in history.
Mayor Remollo expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., House Speaker Martin Romualdez for the inclusion of the projects in the annual budget for 2023, to 2nd District Representative Manuel T. Sagarbarria for endorsing/sponsoring them and to his son Atty. FelIpe Claudio “Dio” Remollo, for coordinating with government agencies concerned as Chief Political Action Officer of Speaker Romualdez.
Among the 18 major infrastructure projects funded under the General Appropriations Act of FY 2023 are:
1. Construction of By-Pass and Diversion Roads (Metro Dumaguete Diversion Road) at P 50 million
2. Construction of Banica River Control, Batinguel, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 50 million
3. Construction of Banica River Control, Junob, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 50 million
4. Construction of Road Including Drainage Canal Cover, Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 5 million
5. Construction of Road, Barangay Motong, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 5 million
6. Construction of Banica River Control, Brgy. Balugo, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 100 million
7. Construction of Banica River Control, Brgy. Candau-ay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 100 million
8. Construction of Banica River Control, Brgy. Batinguel, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 100 million
9. Construction of Banica River Control, Brgy. Northern Junob, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 100 million
10. Construction of Banica River Control, Brgy. Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 100 million
11. Construction of Banilad to Cantil-e River Control, Dumaguete City, Negros Orienta at P 100 million
12. Construction of Banica River Control, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental (Phase 1) at P 30 million
13. Construction of Multi-Purpose Facility (Rizal Boulevard Park), Poblacion Brgys. 1 and 4, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 20 million
14. Rehabilitation of Building 1, Public Market, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 7 million
15. Construction of Covered Court/Evacuation Center, Habitat 4, Brgy. Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 5 million
16. Completion of Covered Court/Evacuation Center, Brgy. Balugo, Dumaguete City Negros Oriental at P 2 million
17. Completion of Covered Court/Evacuation Center, Brgy. Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City Negros Oriental at P 2 million
18. Rehabilitation of Covered Court/Evacuation Center, North City Elementary School, Brgy. Piapi, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at P 2 million
Mayor Remollo believes that the completion of these infrastructure projects will ensure that the community will be resilient from the ill effects of climate change, improve road safety, stimulate the local economy, and enhance the sports tourism potentials of Dumaguete City that will ultimately benefit its residents and visitors alike.
