A team composed of officials from the Development Research Division of the National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office-10 paid a courtesy call on Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and City Tourism Officer Jacqueline V. Antonio as part of the learning and benchmarking of Dumaguete City’s best practices for possible replication in the Northern Mindanao Region.
In her letter to Mayor Remollo, NEDA Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño noted that Dumaguete City has been deemed as the Best Place to Retire in the Philippines by the Philippine Retirement Authority in 2018 as it scored 97.48 based on the criteria set by international organizations like the United Nations, World Health Organization and International Living.
At the same, Dumaguete City is also rapidly becoming one of the most popular destinations in the Philippines due to its reputation as a City of Gentle People with a walkable land area, a youthful seafront, and of having a relatively low crime rate.
And most recently, Dumaguete City was awarded as the Most Improved (Rank 1) Component City in the Philippines for 2022 during the 10th Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) held at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Regional Director Cariño believes that the benchmarking activity of the DRD NEDA personnel will enhance their knowledge one best practices, innovations and other initiatives of LGU DUmaguete along with the promotion of cultural heritage, project implementation and development for replication in Region X.
