Yeongdong-gun Mayor Jeong Yeong-Chul of South Korea and Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo of the Philippines formally signed today the Memorandum of Agreement Strengthening the sisterhood relationship of the two cities deemed mutually beneficial for their citizens.
Specifically, the MOA will promote and expand the exchange of projects in areas of administration, the economy, culture, sports and tourism; promote better understanding of each other’s cultures and arts by sending delegations to leading festivals and cultural events and exhibitions of artworks and for the employment of seasonal workers and youth of both cities.
Both cities note that this year marks the 1st anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the introduction of seasonal workers providing jobs to residents of Dumaguete City who are deployed in the grape farms of Yeongdong-gun that will ensure continued growth of their economies.
Yeongdong-gun plans to employ 150 seasonal workers next year.
Dumaguete’s sister city Yeongdong-gun is known to produce quality grapes with high sugar content and sweet aroma thus it is home to the best wineries in South Korea.
Yeongdong-gun is Korea’s No. 1 Agricultural City and Local Government with the best brand for clean tourism in the country. It is also the center of traditional Korean music with regular performances or workshops for the production and experience of classical sounds and instruments.
The signing ceremony was participated by the councilors and key department heads of the two cities held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall.
Among the Yeongdong-gun officials present aside from Mayor Jeong Yeong-Chul are Councilor (Chairman) Lee Seung-Joo, Councilor Kim O-Bong, Councilor Lee Dae-Ho, Councilor Kim Eun-Ha, Administrative Department Director Seo Jong-Seok, Private Cooperation Team Leader Jeong Mi-Sook, Private Cooperation Team Member Choi Seong-Jun, Agriculture Department Director Sung Uk-Jae, Heads of Nonghyup Agricultural Bank An Jin-Woo, Park Dong-heon and Shon Suk-Joo, Interpreter Lee Kyung-Hwan, Secretary Park Byeong-Hoon, Planning and Audit Department Members Park Jun-Eu and Gang Hean-Seok.
On the part of Dumaguete City, Acting Vice-Mayor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Councilors Maria Marife Cordova, Agustin Miguel Perdices, Rey Lyndon Lawas, Franklin Esmeña, Dionie Amores, Renz Macion, City Administrator Lilani Ramon, Assistant City Administrator Dr. Dinno T. Depositario and other department heads attended the ceremony.
