Municipal officials of Hinundayan Southern Leyte led by Mayor Evelyn T. Lee toured the Central Materials Recovery Facility of Dumaguete City, which was awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as “Best in Resource Recovery in a Centralized Materials Recovery Facility” in Region 7.
The visiting local officials also paid a courtesy call on Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo, who presented the different infrastructure projects and best practices specifically on tourism and disaster response of the Local Government of Dumaguete, in line with the request for benchmarking activities of Mayor Lee and her delegation.
City Tourism Officer Jacqueline V. Antonio and City DRRM Officer Allen Froilan O. Cabaron II also presented the programs and initiatives of their departments, which the Hinundayan officials will try to emulate for the benefit of their citizens.
Engr. Leticia Duran of the Eco-Park Management toured the officials at the Central MRF which housed the equipment that turn garbage into useful byproducts such as plastic chairs, pavers, hollow blocks and other construction materials that can be used for the various infrastructure projects and in the maintenance of roads. On the other hand, biodegradable wastes can be processed to become organic fertilizers.
The DENR also recognized Mayor Remollo and Dumaguete LGU for generating a monthly income of at least P 500, 000 for the City Government through its recovery of recyclable materials/wastes while providing livelihood for the waste pickers through proper and sustainable solid waste management.
