The Knights of Rizal and students of history gathered this morning at the Pantawan People’s Park to commemorate the 126th Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal’s arrival in Dumaguete from Dapitan on board the boat “España” for a brief stop-over while on his way to Manila to start his exile in Cuba.
Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo shared his plan to put up a life-size statue of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Pantawan People’s Park in the Rizal Boulevard, which is the appropriate site to memorialize the historical moment that our national hero came to our shores on August 1, 1896, met his friends and experienced local hospitality that Dumaguete is widely known for.
Among the Knights of Rizal who spoke during the ceremony were Sir Charles Ezra Anthony L. Tuozo, Chapter Commander Negros Oriental Chapter; Sir Josefino T. Larena, Deputy Commander Negros Oriental Chapter; Sir Ambassador MacArthur F. Corsino and Sir Dr. Henry Sojor.
