In line with the directive of Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo to encourage the young to engage in sports for physical fitness and to develop athletes who could represent the city in regional, national and international competitions, the City Sports and Development Office officially launched the summer sports clinic and inter-barangay tournaments last weekend at the Pantawan People’s Park.
Hundreds of excited young people from the 30 barangays participated in the kick off ceremony of the Summer Sports Clinic, the Kagawad Boni Catarata Memorial Cup for men and the Inter-Barangay Sports Festival for women aged 30-years-old and under.
The Kagawad Boni Catarata Memorial Cup features 4 sports events for men: basketball, volleyball, dodgeball and sepak takraw.
The Inter-Barangay Sports Festival includes women athletes competing in softball, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball and dodgeball.
Meanwhile, interested children can join in any of the 16 sports events of their interest under the Summer Sport Clinic offered for free.
Nevertheless, City Sports and Youth Coordinator Ike Xavier Villaflores clarified that only those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed to participate in the games in accordance with the mandate imposed by the City Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of the Emerging Infectious Diseases.
