The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed on 3rd and final reading the establishment of a 24-hour medical emergency response unit with the required funding for its operations, personnel and maintenance.
Authored by Councilor Edgar Lentorio Jr. and Liga ng mga Barangay President Dionie Amores, the ordinance Establishing and Institutionalizing the Dumaguete City Medical Emergency Response Unit (DCMERU) aims to safeguard public health and ensure the physical well-being of all its constituents by providing free and immediate 24-hour medical health emergency response unit to all its constituents in times of health emergencies to address imminent threats to life or limb.
Councilors Lilani Ramon, Nelson Patrimonio, Manuel Sagarbarria and SK Federation President Renz Macion also signed on as co-authors of the ordinance that will also establish a DCMERU Operation Center that will receive and process all calls for emergency assistance and serve as the dispatching area for the response unit.
Each Medical Emergency Response Unit will be composed of the following; a Medical Doctor, an EMT Registered Nurse, and Two EMS Staff capable of giving medically-advanced and life-saving procedures on site and/or while on board its unit’s fully equipped Ambulance while in transit to a nearest hospital to prevent death or loss of limbs to residents in case of medical emergency.
The newly passed Ordinance Establishing and Institutionalizing the Dumaguete City Medical Emergency Response Unit (DCMERU) will be submitted to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo for his approval and implementation.
