Government workers, uniformed personnel and members of civil society organizations gathered this morning to join the nationwide commemoration of the 124th year of the Philippine Independence at the Manuel L. Quezon Park with the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pag-suong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas.”
SK Federation President Renz Macion introduced this year’s guest of honor and speaker Assistant Professor Jose A. Bulado, who is currently Chairperson of the Social Science Department College of Arts and Sciences of Negros Oriental State University and member of the Dumaguete City Heritage Council.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Bulado urges every citizen to honor the meaning of our nation’s independence by speaking truth to power and by standing up for what is right and just.
Vice-Mayor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, representing Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, presented the token of appreciation to Dr. Jose A. Bulado in appreciation of his eloquent and timely call for each citizen to be responsible in preserving the gains and ideals of our country’s independence.

Among those who attended the morning ceremony are Councilor Michael Bandal, Department Heads and employees of the city government, personnel of the Philippine National Police, 302nd Infantry Brigade Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office Dumaguete City, Department Philippine Army Reserve, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Knights of Rizal, Girl Scouts of the Philippines and the Free and Accepted Mason of the Philippines-Mount Kaladias Lodge 91.
