Asserting that it will promote safety, ease in travel and prevent fixers or scalpers from taking advantage of passengers, Vice-Mayor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino is proposing an ordinance that will mandate all shipping companies operating within Dumaguete City to institute electronic ticketing system for passengers and cargoes.
VM Tolentino-Maxino invoked the general welfare clause of the Local Government Code in proposing said ordinance that will mandate online purchase of tickets thus reducing face-to-face transactions amid the COVID-19 pandemic and preserve the comfort of traveling public.
“The establishment of an electronic ticketing system by shipping companies will further bring forth improvement in maritime safety and security since this will provide a useful instrument for preventing ship overloading and overcrowding. Most importantly, the online ticketing system will prevent fixers and scalpers from selling tickets at higher prices,” VM Tolentino-Maxino stressed.
Introduced for 1st reading last Wednesday, the proposed ordinance will be subject to deliberations and debates in the next regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
If the proposed ordinance mandating an electronic ticketing system for shipping companies is passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the same will be submitted to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo for his approval and implementation.
