#ICYMI | The Department of Energy Philippines (DOE), through the Electric Power Industry Management Bureau-Rural Electrification Administration and Management Division and Department of Energy – Visayas Field Office, assessed as well as inspected the 20-footer reefer container units given to the Local Government Units of San Remigio, Cebu and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The donated refrigerated container vans were made possible through the Palamigan ng Bayan (PnB) project, jointly implemented by the DOE, the Department of Agriculture – Philippines and the Department of Transportation – Philippines.
The City Government of Dumaguete used the reefer van unit as storage facility for Covid-19 vaccines, since its operation starting August 2021, to accelerate the vaccination of senior citizens and people with comorbidities in Negros Oriental while LGU-San Remigio, Cebu located it in their fish port.
Immediate energization of their reefer container units were facilitated by the recipient LGUs thru close coordination and engagement with the concerned Distribution Utility.
DOE expressed hope that the local governments of San Remigio, Cebu and Dumaguete City will continue to sustain the operation and maintenance of their respective reefer van units even after the end of PnB project.
At present, there are only four (4) out of 18 donated reefer van units that are energized and operational in the country. A hundred percent complete energization and operation of the reefer container units is targeted by the end of 2022.
