Vice-Mayor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino confirms that 39 Dumaguete City residents arrived in South Korea, Thursday as trainees/seasonal workers in the various fruit farms in Yeongdong-gun until September this year.
Next year 2023, it is expected that up to 300 seasonal workers will be needed in Yeongdong-gun, which is known to produce quality grapes with high sugar content and home to the best wineries in South Korea.
The deployment of workers is the product of the Seasonal Foreign Worker Employment Program provided in the Common Interest Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding signed between Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and Yeongdong-Gun Mayor Park Se Bok that provides job opportunities for Dumaguete residents in line with the sisterhood agreement between the two cities.
Vice-Mayor Tolentino-Maxino and Councilor Michael Bandal represented Mayor Remollo in sending off the 39 residents in front of the City Hall compound yesterday.
The seasonal workers and Vice-Mayor Tolentino-Maxino acknowledge all the efforts of Mayor Remollo to support their employment in South Korea, that will help them provide for the needs of their families back home here in Dumaguete City.
