The concreted road network inside the donated property of the philanthropist Ouano family was inaugurated this afternoon in a simple ceremony led by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and other dignitaries in Barangay Bajumpandan.
Mayor Remollo expressed sincere gratitude to the members of the Ouano family for donating nearly 4 hectares of their property that is now named via ordinance as E.C. Ouano Sr. Complex and shall become the site for the offices of several government agencies and other facilities to include the City and Provincial office of the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Super Family Clinic, the satellite market, bus terminal and possibly the offices of the Registry of Deeds and the COMELEC among others.
Earlier, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed an ordinance authored by Vice-Mayor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino and supported by Councilors Michael Bandal, Edgar Lentorio Jr., Lilani Ramon, Manuel Sagarbarria, Manuel Patrimonio and Dionie Amores formally renaming the donated property as E.C. Ouano Sr. Complex to honor the “generosity and selfless act of the donor (the late Ernesto C. Ouano Sr., represented by his next of kin) that deserves wholehearted appreciation from the people of Dumaguete City not only at this very moment but by the generations to come.”
Mayor Remollo added that the road network will be connected to the Metro Dumaguete Diversion road to provide alternative routes for people to move their goods and services, which will decongest traffic in the downtown area and allow new growth centers to thrive in the upland barangays consistent with the Master Plan of the city.
Residents of Barangays Bajumpandan manifested their support and appreciation to the efforts of the Remollo administration to create more economic activities and opportunities in the upland barangays including the provision of more health facilities that will benefit the neighboring barangays of Talay, Junob, Balugo, Batinguel, Candau-ay, Cadawinonan, Camanjac and Cantil-e.
Among those who attended the inauguration aside from the city officials are the department heads of the City Government, DILG-7 Regional Director Leocadio Trovela, DILG Provincial Director Farah Diba Gentuya, Provincial DOH Officer of Negros Oriental/Siquijor Jennifer C. Remollo and barangay officials.
