Among the cities in Central Visayas Region, Dumaguete City is ranked 1st in the COVID-19 vaccination rate for inoculating a total of 139, 248 of its residents and workers thus achieving 129.09% accomplishment based on the 80% target population of 110, 423 (per DOH/DILG estimate) as of February 12, 2022.
The goal of achieving herd immunity has been adjusted to 80% with the inclusion of children 5-11-years-old as part of the eligible population.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo recognized the successful efforts of the City Health Office, Provincial Health Office, private hospitals, barangay officials and medical volunteers in vaccinating a much higher number of residents and workers that will facilitate the safe reopening of the local economy.
Per ranking of the Department of Health the following are the top ten (10) Local Government Units based on the percentage of accomplishment on the 80% target of the total population for herd immunity as of February 12, 2022, namely: 1st, Dumaguete City, 129.09%; 2nd Tagbilaran City, 117.95%; 3rd Mandaue City at 92.4%; Cebu City, 86.60%; Lapu-Lapu City, 86.1%; Talisay City, 73.26%; Naga City, 72.46%; Canlaon City, 43.86%; Tanjay City, 31.98% and Guihulngan City, 24.24%.
Dumaguete, the capital city and the center of trade and commerce in Negros Oriental has a total population of 138, 029 thus the 80% target population is set at 110, 423, nevertheless the number of completely vaccinated residents and workers reached 139, 248 slightly higher than the total population of the city.
