Key officials of the Department of Education, City of Dumaguete and Province of Negros Oriental convened in a 2-day planning and coordination meeting in preparation of the country’s hosting of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Schools Games to be held in Dumaguete City this November 2022.
In an earlier meeting last December 2021, both Deped Secretary Leonor Briones and Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo reiterated their commitment to marshal resources and personnel that will be needed for the successful hosting of this international sports competition featuring the best student-athletes in ASEAN region.
ASEAN Schools Games is an annual sports event featuring about 5, 250 student-athletes and other members of the delegations from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia who will compete in athletics, swimming, archery, badminton, volleyball, sepak takraw, table tennis and basketball.
The officials from Deped Central Office, Region 7, Negros Oriental Division and the Dumaguete City Schools Division conferred with their counterparts from LGU Dumaguete City and Provincial Government to discuss the updates in the hosting preparations, tasking of various working committees, orientation on COVID-19 health and safety protocols, deliberations on the proposed 12th ASG Memorandum of Understanding between Deped and the LGUs and conduct inspection of the identified playing and billeting venues.

Paulin, Schools Superintendent of Negros Oriental Division; Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, Schools Superintendent of Dumaguete City Division; Dr. Dinno T. Depositario, Assistant City Administrator (representing Mayor Remollo) and Provincial Information Officer Bimbo Miraflor (representing Governor Roel Degamo) led their respective delegations during the planning sessions.
