Vice-Mayor Karissa Faye Tolentino-Maxino recently met with the officials of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to discuss the establishment of Balay Silangan in Dumaguete City, which is a temporary shelter for drug offenders with the main objective of reforming them into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of the society.
And to maintain a drug-free workplace, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo authorized the conduct of periodic and random drug tests to more than 2, 000 local officials and employees to provide confirmed drug dependents a chance to be rehabilitated before they are hired again.
LGU-Dumaguete is amenable to the Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 13 that aims to promote the establishment and institutionalization of drug-free workplace policies in all government agencies and ensure that all public officers, both elective and appointive, remain drug free through the conduct of authorized drug testing pursuant to the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 as amended.
Among those present in the meeting are PDEA Head Elmer T. Ebong, IAIII Aline C. Deposoy, IOIII Julieta C. Amatong, IOII Yola May Tembrevilla and Mr. Kevin Gaudan of the City Human Resource and Management Office.
