Highlights of the keynote message of City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Cyrus Elejorde during yesterday’s 125th martyrdom anniversary of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal at the Manuel L. Quezon Park was attended by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and other government officials.
Dr. Elejorde stresses that “it is our duty and responsibility to justify and uphold the sacrifices of our heroes. As citizens of the country, we should continue to live by what is morally upright, by the ideals passed on to us by our ancestors. This is the legacy that they have left us and it is our obligation to pass it down to the future.”
“Today, we commemorate Rizal Day. As we celebrate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Jose Rizal, one of our finest heroes, I encourage you my brothers and sisters to revisit our history, our history that helped shape all of our lives. It is one of the treasures that we share together as a race. Remember that Dr. Jose Rizal once said that to foretell the destiny of a nation, it is necessary to open the book that tells of her past. So, if ever we stray from the course, we simply have to recall and reflect on our history to realize who we really are. Together, let us stay unwavering and unfaltering. Together, let us continue fighting the same cause. Together, let us keep realizing the same dreams and together let us be each other’s heroes.”
As part of the ceremony, the faculty and staff of Piapi High School reenacted the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal some 125 years ago. Among those present are the Freemasons, Knights of Rizal, members of Mt. Kaladias Lodge No. 91 and the representatives of religious denominations, universities and other institutions.
