Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and the City Tourism Office came up with the design for the Panilongon Quincentennial marker to be placed at the center of the recreated ship VICTORIA, which was the first sea vessel to successfully circumnavigate the world.

Escalante, Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines announces the winners of the search: “finally we will now proceed to announce the first placer for the best site development of quincentennial historical marker garnering and average score of 9.50, the 1st Placer, who will receive a cash prize of P 250, 000 goes to the quincentennial marker of PANILONGON of the City of Dumaguete. Congratulations!”
The Board of Judges scored the 27 entries [among the 34 sites across the country] on the following criteria:
1. Compliance to technical requirements (40%)
2. Environmental impact and sustainability (20%)
3. Visual integrity (20%)
4. Safety and security (20%)
