Several Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers from other towns in Negros Oriental along with officials of DENR-EMB7 visited the Dumaguete City Materials Recovery Facility to witness and learn, through actual demonstrations, how the machines and equipment present in the facility are operated.
Eco-Park Solid Waste Processing Facility Manager Engr. Leticia Duran said that Dumaguete City, through the efforts of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, is a recipient of the Plastic to Chair Recycling Equipment, glass pulverizer, bio-shredder, bio-composters from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Bio-shredders and composters will convert solid wastes into organic fertilizer, soil conditioner and mulch to improve plant growth.
The City Government also purchased plastic shredder and densifiers, including the pyrolysis gasification equipment that will turn solid wastes into construction materials like hollow blocks, bricks and pavers.
These various machines and equipment are now being installed in the City MRF to process all solid wastes/garbage after Mayor Remollo implemented the closure of the city dumpsite last March 30, 2021.
The guests are participants to the Capacity Development Workshop conducted by DENR-EMB7 held in Dumaguete City to provide technical capabilities to operators on the newly acquired composters and bio-shredders of the different LGUs to make their MRFs functional and further increase waste diversion.
