The City Council approved today the request of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo to appropriate P 25.6 million for the purchase of rice for the 32, 000 households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as certified by the City Social Welfare Office.
Mayor Remollo said that each household is entitled to get 20 kilos of rice, which would be the 6th round of rice distribution by the City Government since the start of the pandemic.
“This is in line with the City Government’s effort to help alleviate the conditions of the families adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Remollo stressed.
This is also separate from the 10 kilos of rice subsidy already received by the 25 barangays as of Wednesday while the 5 remaining barangays namely Poblacion 5, Bagacay, Daro, Batinguel and Taclobo will be given their own schedules of distribution.
Councilor Lilani Ramon, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, said that the amount of P 25. 6 million appropriated for the purchase of rice assistance shall be taken from the unappropriated surplus of the general fund proper of the Local Government Unit of Dumaguete.
Now that the budget has been approved, the next stage would be to conduct the public bidding (which may take time) to determine the lowest bidder.
Once the lowest and responsive supplier shall have been awarded with the contract, the rice distribution shall start in partnership with the barangay officials concerned.
