Dumaguete City Chief-of-Police Lt. Col. Joeson B. Parallag reported to Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo and the City Peace and Order Council that the number of crime incidents has declined by 296 or 35.02% in the first 8 months of 2021 (January to August) compared to the same period in 2020.
There were 549 crime incidents recorded from January to August 2021 compared to 845 for the same period in 2020.
Specifically, for index crimes like murder it decreased from 8 cases in 2020 to just 1 in 2021; theft from 49 to just 34 and motornapping from 2 cases to 0 this year.
However, rape cases increased to 12 in 2021 from just 5 in 2020; homicide from 0 in 2020 to 1 in 2021; 6 robbery incidents in 2021 similar to the number of cases in 2022 and like last year no carnapping incident was reported this year.
For non-index crimes: traffic related incidents dropped from 211 in 2020 to 93 in this year; illegal drugs, illegal gambling and VAWC from 252 to 254 and other non-index crimes such as libel, trespassing, resisting authorities, estafa, grave threats, frustrated homicide, malicious mischief, acts of lasciviousness, alarms and scandals from 136 to 93.
Lt. Col. Parallag is optimistic that the decline in the crimes will continue to drop as the City PNP intensifies the campaign against all forms of illegal activities.
