WATCH: MESSAGE OF MAYOR IPE REMOLLO to the beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) during the last day of their 20-day work in the different offices of the City Government.
This year’s 300 beneficiaries are senior high and college students who worked in the various offices of the City Government and earned stipend that can be used for their continuing education.
Mayor Remollo also said that the City Government is also providing P 12, 000 annually to each qualified recipient/scholar chosen from the different barangays under the Educational Assistance Program with almost 500 beneficiaries.
I am very pleased to join you today in your closing ceremonies after you have worked with the different departments of our City Government.
This 20-day program, which has been going on for years, is supported by the Department of Labor and Employment.
The city, of course, defrays the 60 percent of the stipend that you will receive while the Department of Labor takes care of the 40 percent.
As promised, this administration has increased the number of beneficiaries or participants from a low of 160 in the past. Now, we have already increased it to 300 participants or student beneficiaries. And you see, we have also increased this stipend that you will be receiving after successfully working with the government for 20 days.
My word of advice to you young students is that this stipend that you will be receiving of the City Government and the Department of Labor and Employment shall be used by you wisely to further your education.
And by the way, for your information related to the SPES program of the City Government and the national government we also have a scholarship program of the City Government, giving allowances to qualified College students in our different colleges and universities of the city.
We have increased the stipend to P12, 000 a year or P6,000 per semester.
Not only that, we have also increased the number of beneficiaries from a low of 200, now to almost 500 students during my administration.
We hope to increase this further, and pray that despite the pandemic there will be continues revenue for the City Government so that we can further increase your educational allowances, and perhaps also increase the number of participants or beneficiaries of the SPES program.
Finally, let me congratulate and thanked Ms. Socorro Mira PESO Head of Dumaguete City for successfully and ably managing this program together with other programs of our City Government in conjunction with the Department of Labor and Employment.
In fact, the city was recognized by the Department of Labor — no less than the Secretary of Labor Silvestre Bello — this year for being a regional winner of Region VII besting other PESO programs of the same region. Congratulation! And by the next year, there will be more beneficiaries of this program.
I hope to see you in the next year’s program. Thank you very much.
