About 33.68% of the total hospital beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients are occupied with the majority of them residents from neighboring cities and municipalities of Dumaguete City as of August 9, 2021.
There are 4 hospitals in Dumaguete City with the following COVID bed capacity and the corresponding number of patients: NOPH with 75 dedicated beds but occupied only by 17 patients; Holy Child Hospital with 25 beds, 10 patients; Ace Doctors Dumaguete with 30 beds, 7 patients and Silliman Medical Center with 60 beds, 30 patients.
City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sarah B. Talla disclosed that of the 64 COVID patients, only 14 are residents of Dumaguete City confined in the following hospitals: Silliman University Medical Center with 7 patients, NOPH-3, Holy Child Hospital-1 and Ace Doctors Hospital -3.
Nevertheless, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo reiterated the need to be vigilant and for the authorities to consistently impose the health protocols against COVID-19 while accelerating the vaccination of more eligible residents to achieve herd immunity.
The significant decline in the number of COVID-19 patients needing hospitalization compared to the month of June, when the hospitals are almost filled with patients, is a positive sign that the efforts of the Local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases are yielding good results.
