City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sarah B. Talla discloses that the number of active COVID-19 cases has fallen sharply to a 3-month low at just 45 cases as of July 30, 2021.
Prior to the surge, the city had 43 active cases last April 29 before it surged and peaked at 651 active cases on June 16, 2021 prompting the National IATF to impose Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine throughout Negros Oriental.
Nevertheless, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo urges the residents and visitors of Dumaguete City to remain vigilant and to continue practicing the minimum public health protocols against COVID-19 considering the looming threat of the delta variant.
When the number of active COVID-19 cases surged in June 2021, the City Inter-Agency Task Force MEID chaired by Mayor Remollo, coordinated with the DOH-7 and the Integrated Provincial Health Office to implement the following measures:
1. Conducted massive swab RT-PCR testing of thousands of close contacts (both symptomatic and asymptomatic) so that they will be promptly identified, isolated and treated as means to control the rising COVID-19 infections.
2. Deployment of Health Marshals for the daily patrols and imposition of health protocols for all residents and establishments.
3. Acceleration of the COVID-19 vaccination for eligible residents with about 16, 443 individuals inoculated with Sinovac, Astrazeneca and Janssen vaccines.
4. Maintained the Emergency Operations Center hotlines that are open 24/7 to provide greater access for people in need of assistance or refer reports that require urgent response.
5. Provided food packs to all persons who were isolated and quarantined due to COVID-19 infection or exposure.
6. Implemented the Safety Seal Certification program to increase the compliance of public and private establishments to the minimum public health standards set by the national government.
Considering the decline in active COVID-19 cases in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental the quarantine status was downgraded by the National IATF from MECQ to General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions.
