About 2, 884 workers from the informal sector in Dumaguete City received the financial assistance of P 5, 000 each that was committed by Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat and Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo during their recent visit to the city.
Mayor Remollo said that the recipients of the financial assistance, distributed the various branches of M Lhuillier, are members of various organizations registered under the City’s Sectoral Desk Office and endorsed for inclusion as beneficiaries of the DOT and DOLE Camp Program 2 under Bayanihan 2.
“This timely support is just the first tranche of financial assistance that the people of Dumaguete will be receiving from the National and City governments under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ),” Mayor Remollo said.
City Sectoral Desk Officer Albert Aquino said that the beneficiaries included 1, 903 pedicab drivers, 563 ambulant vendors, 248 masseurs, 138 waste pickers and 32 community-based workers.
Local authorities deployed Health Marshals in the different branches of M Lhuillier to enforce the protocols like wearing of face masks, physical/social distancing and to prevent overcrowding.
