The number of active COVID-19 cases climbs to 651 following the confirmation of 116 additional cases, mostly those exposed to family members or co-workers, reported Wednesday.
Forty-two (42) COVID-19 patients have also recovered but a 46-year-old, who was dead on arrival at a hospital tested positive of COVID-19 following the post mortem swab.
The 116 new COVID-19 cases are the combined results of those tested in the hospitals, PESU and the continuing massive swab testing of close contacts.
Hence, since the city was affected by the pandemic from January 30, 2020 to June 16, 2021 there are now 651 active COVID cases; 1, 208 recoveries and 56 deaths. It was previously reported yesterday that there are already 58 deaths but upon revalidation, 3 of the fatalities were found to be not residents of Dumaguete City.
The 116 new COVID-19 cases are residents of the following barangays: Bagacay (5); Bajumpandan (3); Balugo (4); Banilad (3); Bantayan (5); Batinguel (5); Cadawinonan (1); Calindagan (4); Camanjac (12); Candau-ay (9); Cantil-e (5); Daro (4); Junob (5); Looc (7); Mangnao (4); Motong (9); Piapi (6); Poblacion 7 (1); Poblacion 8 (2); Pulantubig (10); Tabuc-tubig (6); Taclobo (3) and Talay (3).
All the known close contacts of these new COVID-19 cases including several persons with symptoms of Influenza Like Illness are quarantined and will undergo RT PCR swab tests.
The massive swab testing of close contacts of COVID-19 is necessary to help authorities promptly identify, isolate and treat those, who will be found positive of the virus, which is a strategy to bring down the surge of cases.
