All barangays ideally must have their own Materials Recovery Facility that is operational in order to implement the segregation of solid wastes starting from the households with the City Environment and Natural Resources taking the responsibility of collecting the segregated garbage to the Central MRF for final disposal.
In the recent meeting of the Solid Waste Management Board, Councilor Edgar Lentorio Jr. and City Legal Officer Manuel Arbon underscored the need to change the behavior of the people to develop the habit of waste segregation and recycling to achieve zero waste.
And to ensure compliance to the national law and local ordinances on solid waste management, the City Government plans to subsidize the honorarium for the payment of enforcers to be deployed in the barangays.
Finally all concerned agencies are preparing for the eventual installation and later commissioning of the pyrolysis gasification process that will convert garbage to construction materials for infrastructure projects.
Present during the recent meeting were Fritz Oberlaine Lacerk, Maria Victoria Umbac of the City Agriculture’s Office, City Engineer’s Office Allen P. Agala, ENRO Chief Engr. Chilvier Patrimonio and the representative of City DILG.
