The Sangguniang Barangay of Cadawinonan passed an ordinance establishing its own ecological solid waste management program that will enforce segregation, collection, recycling and disposal of garbage in accordance to existing City ordinances and Republic Act 9003.
Councilor Michael Bandal, Chairperson of the Committee on Rules, Ordinances and Legal Matters, with members Councilors Karissa Tolentino and Edgar Lentorio Jr. reviewed the proposed ordinance with Cadawinonan Punong Barangay Jimmy Tabada and other officials to ensure that the provisions are consistent with law and city ordinances.
It was noted that the barangay ordinance imposes a fee of P 20.00 per month per household to be used to defray the cost of garbage collection and maintain the operations of the Barangay Materials Recovery Facility.
The Committee also decided to discuss in the next meeting the pending ordinance of Barangay Motong, represented by its Punong Barangay and Liga ng mga Barangay President Dionie Amores, that prohibits the dumping of garbage along its highways to incorporate the suggested amendments to strengthen the measure.
Deliberations of the two ordinances will resume in the next committee meeting before they will be endorsed to the plenary of the City Council for final approval.
