Barangays Motong and Candau-ay have passed ordinances that will enhance the mandate for households to segregate their solid wastes that are now under review by the Committee on Rules and Ordinances chaired by Councilor Michael Bandal with members Councilors Karissa Tolentino and Edgar Lentorio Jr. for endorsement to the plenary of the City Council.
City Environment and Natural Resources Office Head Engr. Chilver Patrimonio reiterated to the barangay officials that waste segregation starts in the barangay-level, thus the need to make their respective Materials Recovery Facility functional along with the adoption of zero waste.
The need for households and barangays to operate their MRFs becomes more urgent now that the dumpsite has been closed by the City Government in accordance to the DENR-approved Safe Closure and Rehabilitation Plan as submitted by the administration of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo in 2018.
Among the officials present are Liga ng mga Barangay President and Motong Punong Barangay Dionie Amores, PB Gregorio Oira of Candau-ay, PB Crispin Patrimonio of Bajumpandan and their kagawads.
Several other barangay ordinances are pending for review by the committee for appropriate action and final approval of the City Council.
