Once the vaccines are fully administered to the majority of the population coupled with an increasing number of companies expected to relocate to Dumaguete City, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo is optimistic that the year 2021 will prove to be the year of recovery after the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Remollo shares to Dr. Dinno T. Depositario that despite the pandemic, Dumaguete City has grown dramatically as he expects increased revenues from new investments, expansion and other sources so that the local government can continue to fund infrastructure projects, provide social welfare benefits and medical services to the citizens.
The peace and order situation in the city has also improved noting that the City PNP under Lt. Col. Mark Gifter Sucalit has reduced the crimes incidents from 1, 329 in June-December 2019 to just o just 468 incidents or by almost 65% in the same period in 2020.
The City of Dumaguete was also recognized as the 3rd Most Competitive City in the entire Visayas by the National Competitiveness Council of the Philippines based on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index 2020 Rankings disclosed during the recently concluded 8th Regional Competitiveness Virtual Summit.
In 2018, Dumaguete City was conferred by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) the distinction as ranked 2nd in Government Efficiency among all component cities in the Philippines.
