Residents credited the three bridges for saving the lives and properties of those living along the banks of Banica River.
The City DRRMO reported to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo that the bridges withstood the large volume of flood water caused by Tropical Depression Vicky and did not sustain major damage, if at all.
Unlike in the previous years, floods even those smaller than the one caused by TD Vicky very recently, would inundate the homes and properties near the Banica River.
But with the replacement of the old box culverts with 3 full span bridges at the back of Vida Royal in Barangay Candau-ay, Colon bridge at the back of Foundation University and near the BIR the floodwater were not obstructed and did not breach the banks to inundate the communities.
Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office will render a consolidated report of the number of homes damaged or destroyed to the Office of Mayor Remollo for verification so that the financial assistance of the affected families will be processed.
The initial report of DRRMO indicate that several homes in Poblacion 1, Barangay Calindagan and Poblacion 8 were partially damaged or destroyed.
There are no fatalities and all evacuees are back in their homes except those who lost theirs.
