City Government officials Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and several dignitaries attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed 18-Storey Dumaguete Tower at the Manuel L. Quezon Park, Friday.
Among those who attended the ceremony are Councilors Lilani Ramon, Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Michael Bandal, Edgar Lentorio, Bernice Elmaco, Liga ng mga Barangay President Dionie Amores, SK President Renz Macion, City Chief-of-Police Lt. Col. Mark Gifter Sucalit, Miss Dumaguete Krizia Hamsirani, the 30 Punong Barangays and ordinary citizens.
Don Ramas Uypitching, whose family will fund the construction of the edifice, stressed that it is now the right time for him to leave a legacy by putting up a tower that can offer something special and phenomenal to attract people from all over the country to come to Dumaguete City, his home and pride.
In his remarks, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo commended generous citizens like the Uypitching family, who merely want to give back to their community.
Mayor Remollo said that what Dumaguete needs are builders and creative people to make the city famous, strong and a real City of Gentle People sustained by civic-minded citizens who donate or contributed properties for public good.
The tower can be used for tourism, promotion of the heritage, culture and the arts and other legitimate purposes that may also help generate income for the government.
