All residents and barangay officials of Dumaguete City are encouraged to fully cooperate in the ongoing 2020 Census of Population (CPH) and Housing conducted by enumerators now deployed in the communities.
Both Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and Provincial Statistics Officer Ariel T. Fortuito stressed the need for a complete count of the population and households to help the government make relevant social and economic development plans, policies and programs that will also benefit the business industry and academic institutions.
Census enumerators, who shall conduct the interviews in accordance to local health protocols on COVID-19, are to collect demographic and socio-economic data of the household population such as sex, age, religious affiliation, highest educational attainment and occupation, among other details.
Barangay officials will also be interviewed to provide information such as barangay facilities/characteristics, number of establishments by types, informal settlers, presence of relocation area, in-movers to the barangay and out-movers of the barangays.
Respondents are reminded to provide truthful and complete answers to statistical inquiries otherwise they might be held liable in violation of Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 that carries a penalty of one (1) year imprisonment and a fine of P 100, 000.
It is estimated that it would take about 15-30 minutes to complete the face-to-face survey by enumerators, who shall at all times wear face masks and shield and observe proper social distancing.
The 2020 CPH is the 15th census of population and 7th census of housing to be undertaken in the country since the first census in 1903.
