All residents of Dumaguete City are encouraged to register for free under the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys as provided in Republic Act 11055 to establish valid proof of their identities and ensure efficient and responsive government service.
And in order to further attract the residents to register, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo plans to require the use of PhilID or national ID when accessing services and the benefits of the City Government like in the medical/financial assistance, benefits for senior citizens and solo parents, Christmas cash gifts and distribution of rice subsidy, among others.
The 30 Punong Barangays led by Liga President Dionie Amores, who attended the Orientation Seminar on RA 11055 last Friday by the Provincial Statistics Authority, have indicated their support to the program that aims to capture and store the demographic data and biometrics information of each citizen or resident alien in the country.
Provincial Statistical Specialist Engr. Ariel T. Fortuito said that the registration will start later this year and assured the public that all information gathered will be protected against unlawful access and disclosure under pain of imprisonment and huge fines.
The purpose of Philippine Identification System is to make government and private transactions simple, safe, and organized. The National ID can be used to get passport, driver’s license, applying for jobs, opening a bank account, processing police and NBI clearance, enrolling in school, etc.
Last Friday’s Orientation with PSA was organized by the City Human Resource Office under Assistant City Administrator Dr. Dinno T. Depositario and is part of the celebration of the 120th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with the theme: PSC@120: Public Sector in the Age of Digital Transformation.
