Members of the City Council took turns in appealing for reconsideration of the National Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases on the no backrider policy and one-passenger per tricycle policy since these are the primary means of transportation of the residents.

Representatives of the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, Provincial Highway Patrol Group, Provincial Government and medical practitioners were present during yesterday’s special session of the City Council presided by Vice-Mayor Alan Gel Cordova. The police officials also met with Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo in an earlier dialogue so as not to burden the riding public and transport groups.

The City Councilors have endorsed and joined a signature campaign, including a petition in Change.Org spearheaded by Councilor Rosel Erames, to be submitted to the national IATF for the national authorities to reconsider the enforcement of the twin policies in Dumaguete City.
