Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo disclosed that about 35, 000 indigent families, senior citizens and PWDs who are in crisis situation due to the threat of COVID-19 will get assistance from the City Government in the form of rice subsidy.
This developed as Mayor Remollo lauded the members of the City Council for approving his request for an appropriation of about P 7 million for the purpose in the last session.
Mayor Remollo said that each of the recipient will receive 5 kilos of rice to be placed in eco-bags to be distributed in their respective barangays as soon as the government procurement process will be completed.
The Punong Barangays, Kagawads and SK Chairpersons will help in the distribution of the rice subsidy that will be delivered to the households of the recipients.
MEANWHILE, About 3, 000 workers in the informal sector, who are accredited by the City’s Sectoral Desk, will each receive P 2, 500 as cash assistance after losing income due to the disruption caused by the threat of COVID-19.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that the total amount of P 7.5 million will be taken from the Quick Respond Fund following the declaration of a state of calamity. This will probably be the first batch of recipients.
Sectoral Desk Officer Albert Aquino said that the recipients have already been identified as members of the 21 associations of ambulant vendors; 33 organizations of tricycle drivers; 9 associations of massage therapists; 1 association of porters in the city’s pier and 1 association of blind masseurs.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office will prepare the payrolls for the eventual release of the cash assistance which will be announced later.
