Three barangays of Dumaguete City, with the most number of population, remain the biggest recipients of shares from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of the national government.

Barangays Bagacay, Taclobo and Batinguel will receive IRA shares at P 8.7 million; P 8.6 million and P 8.3 million, respectively for Year 2020.

Meanwhile, smaller Poblacion barangays get an average of a little over a million share of the IRA.

In sum, the city’s 30 barangays will receive a combined P 137 million in IRA shares for the current year.

IRAs are shares equivalent to 40% of the national taxes collected three years prior to the fiscal year as mandated by the Local Government Code of 1991. The share of each Local Government Unit (barangay, municipality, city and province) is determined by its population, land area and the so-called equal sharing formula.

The following are the IRA shares of the other barangays: Bajumpandan, P 5.9 million; Balugo, P 3.8 million; Bantayan, P 5 million; Bunao, P 3.3 million; Cadawinonan, P 5.4 million; Calindagan, P 6.9 million; Camanjac, P 4.6 million; Candau-ay, P 6.9 million; Cantil-e, P 4.5 million; Daro, P 6.2 million; Junob, P6.4 million; Looc, P 4.8 million; Mangnao-Canal, P4.2 million; Motong, P 2.9 million; Piapi, P 5.8 million; Poblacion 1 (Tinago), P 2.9 million; Poblacion 2; P 2.2 million; Poblacion 3, P1.4 million; Poblacion 4, P 1.3 million; Poblacion 5, P 1.3 million; Poblacion 6, P 1.4 million; P 1.5 million; Poblacion 8, P 1.2 million; Pulantubig, P 3.8 million; Tabuc-tubig, P2.5 million and Talay, P 4.7 million.

IRA shares of the barangays will be budgeted to pay for the salaries and benefits of officials and employees, fund infrastructure projects, for disaster management and for gender and development initiatives. Some barangays receive additional funds from Real Property Tax, royalty tax, fees and charges collection, among other sources of revenues.

In order to augment their budgets, most of the barangay captains also seek allocations for their priority projects before the City Government, national agencies, congressional districts and senators.
