Resort and hotel owners from Valencia present to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo their token and plaque of appreciation for his “invaluable contribution to the dramatic increase of tourists coming to the Municipality of Valencia as a result of your hosting various sports competitions and conventions in Dumaguete City. These translated into better quality of life for Valencianons directly and indirectly involved with the tourism industry.” The citation was signed by the officers of Valencia Hotels and Resort Owners-Managers Association President Florante Vicuña and Vice-President Nicholas K. Solon.

Indeed, it is not only the Dumaguete City hotels, resorts and restaurants that are economically benefitting from the spillover effects of the various sports tourism events hosted by the local government under Mayor Remollo but also its neighboring LGUs. In photo are: Assistant City Administrator Dr. Dinno T. Depositario, City Administrator Doram Dumalagan, City Tourism Officer Jacqueline V. Antonio, Mayor Remollo, Florante Vicuña and Melba Vicuña of Forest Camp and Antonio Igos of Ann Angel’s Resort.

Records show that tourist arrivals in Dumaguete City increased by 14.75 or 706,689 visitors in 2018 compared to 615,861 in 2017. This brought an average occupancy rate of 76 percent tourist influx in the hotels and resorts. This does not yet include accommodation establishments listed under AirBNB which has also reported a high occupancy rate for the year 2018. The figures are expected to be higher in 2019.
