Granting the request of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and concerned Barangay Captains Inspector Bernardo A. Del Mundo Jr. Chief of the 702nd Maritime Police Station has given all fishermen until April 14, 2019 to register including their fishing boats.

Mayor Remollo made the announcement before an assembly of barangay officials and fishermen from Bantayan, Piapi, Looc, Tinago, Calindagan, Mangnao and Banilad.

The meeting was called after two fishermen from Calindagan identified as Jan Jan Libencio Noay and Gerry Dagoy were arrested during a seaborne patrol conducted by the Maritime Police.

Mayor Remollo promised to provide legal assistance to the arrested fishermen so they can be released from detention.

It was learned that many of the fishermen have not yet registered before the Maritime Police, which is required to regulate fishing activities in the territorial waters of the city.

Mayor Remollo urged the fishermen to continue with their normal fishing activities as part of their livelihood while processing their registration papers. No fees will be collected by the city as part of the registration process.
