March 3, 2019 (UPDATED) – A funeral convoy from Dumaguete City to Basay town brought the 5 bodies of the victims of a van mishap yesterday March 2, 2019. The convoy was supported by various stakeholders for the transportation which include the local government units of Bayawan City, Basay, and Dumaguete City. Electric provider NORECO II also lend some of its vehicles in transporting the relatives and friends of the victims.

Currently, survivors Willie Chua, Jessie Mae Sabanal and teacher John Mark Prestin are recuperating at the Silliman University Medical Center (SUMC). On the other hand, Elmer Toquero remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Meanwhile, Justine Generoso is getting better at the ICU of Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) through the efforts of doctor-volunteer thoracic specialist, Dr. Gaudiel.

James Bagarinao was brought in at the operating room of NOPH, 3 pm today for another operation.

DepEd Bayawan City Division continue to deploy monitoring teams to provide personalized attention to the patients.

Funeral arrangements of the 5 fatalities will be decided tomorrow after the meeting of the crisis management team.

Bayawan City Division continue to call for donations for the medical expenses of the survivors and for their rehabilitation.
