After the successful hosting of the 23rd edition of the University Games, Dumaguete City will again play host to the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) that will be participated by 20 teams (men and women) from around the country and foreign teams from Japan, Russia and Guam for a series of matches at the Rizal Boulevard beach courts on November 19-20.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo accepted the hosting of the international event as one of the activities in line with the 70th Charter Anniversary of the city and to further strengthen its reputation as a sports tourism destination in this part of the country.

ABS-CBN sports will be featuring not only the games but also the host city and its many tourism sites. “As the official broadcast partner, ABS-CBN sports is committed to cover BVR events all over the country.”

BVR, which is co-founded by former Ateneo de Manila University players, aims to increase the passion of volleyball enthusiasts that may produce world-class athletes who could proudly and competently compete in the international tournaments.

Among the competing teams are: Bacolod, Dumaguete, University of St. La Salle, National University, Philippine Air Force, Russia Wild Card, Tigers, University of Santo Tomas, Foundation University, Japan, Banko Perlas, Cebu, Guam, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, University of Saint La Salle and Dipolog.

Dumaguete City has an average 40, 000 tourist arrivals based on the midyear reports and this influx is predicted to significantly increase in the last semester of because of the numerous events beginning August with the Silliman University’s Founding Anniversary, Sandurot in September, Buglasan and Unigames in October, Charter Anniversary in November and Christmas season in December.

Increased tourist arrivals fuel economic activities particularly in the hospitality, transportation and food industries that in turn provide jobs and livelihood not only among the locals but also those from neighboring cities and municipalities.
