Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo exhorted all barangay officials and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa to actively participate in the lectures and practical exercises of the training seminar so they would be more equipped to handle disputes and cases lodged in their respective barangays and help reduce the volume of cases in the regular courts.
Officials from the Department of Justice ADR Director Ulysses A. Aguila, Deputy Director Charlie Guhit and Deputy Director Rodan Parrocha discussed the salient features of the Katarungang Pambarangay Law, best practices and challenges of the KP law and facilitated the simulation exercises on how to effectively handle mediation and conciliation to settle disputes in the Barangay.
Also present to ensure the efficient conduct of the training held at Bahura Resort and Spa in Dauin are City Local Government Operations Officer Aquilina Eltanal and Liga ng mga Barangay President Dione Amores.
Under the Katarungang Pambarangay or the Barangay Justice System “is an alternative, community-based mechanism for dispute resolution of conflicts between members of the same community. It is only when the BJS has failed to resolve the dispute that the parties are allowed to bring their case to court.”
