Pursuant to the newly passed ordinance by the City Council the minimum fare rate beginning Monday will now be P 9.00 for the first kilometer.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo made the announcement Friday with Councilors Alan Gel Cordova, Lilani Ramon, Michael Bandal, Karissa Tolentino Maxino and Manuel Arbon. Also present are officers of the tricycle associations.
Originally, tricycle drivers wanted a P2.00 increase in the minimum fare, but the City Council voted to grant half of that or P 1.00 in order to balance the interest of the drivers and welfare of the passengers.
Addtional P1.00 will be charged for every succeeding kilometer. Students, seniors and PWDs would still enjoy the mandatory 20% discount.
Aside from the rising cost of fuel per liter, the prices for spare parts and other basic commodities have also dramatically increased that drivers are earning way below the minimum wage especially if the rental of their units are subtracted.
However, even if the official fare rate has been set at P 9.00 still passengers have the option to give more especially if they are satisfied with the service. But if passengers find the drivers disrespectful and discourteous they become less generous
