The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has already approved the city government’s plan to build a Materials Recovery Facility in the newly purchased lots in Candau-ay.
All garbage brought to the central MRF will be segregated: biodegradable can be converted into organic fertilizer, recyclables will be sold, plastic wastes will be turned into chairs for public schools and the residuals (dili mapuslan) will be buried at the sanitary landfill.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, environmental groups, punong barangays and Fr. Sulpicio Vincoy are ready to partner with fellow advocates to implement zero waste management program beginning in the households.
Government workers and barangay officials mobilize heavy equipment to clear and fence the newly purchased lot in order to keep squatters from illegally occupying the site of the proposed Eco-Park and Waste Disposal Facilities that include the MRF and possibly the sanitary landfill.
In his latest dialogue with the residents of Barangays Camanjac and Candau-ay, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo underscored the necessity and urgency of putting up a Materials Recovery Facility and Sanitary Landfill in an estimated 10-hectare lot in Barangay Candau-ay.
