The 9th Ambassador to visit Dumaguete City under Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, His Excellency Igor Khovaev of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Philippines, will recommend a city back in his country that could enter a sisterhood agreement with the City of Gentle People.
The envoy met with Mayor Remollo at his residence last night and agreed that it is now the time for both Russia and the Philippines to discover and explore their respective cultures to promote understanding as well as cooperation for tourism and education.
Khovaev, who is accompanied by the embassy’s Third Secretary Dennis Karenin, also pointed out to Mayor Remollo that there are currently 8,000 Filipinos in Russia today and none of them committed any crime or became a victim of any.
He also added that Russian tourists are generous spender and would prefer to stay two to three weeks in their host countries for vacation.
Mayor Remollo said that the city has a number of Russian expats and a greater number of tourists. He is also interested to host the Russian movie festival, to send outstanding students to Russia for free scholarships, sports development, possible sharing of technology, civil engineering and power generation.
Both Mayor Remollo and Ambassador Khovaev later watched the match between Spain and Russia at the Manuel L. Quezon Park.
Russia beat Spain via a series of penalty kicks 5-4.
