City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Evangel Luminarias delivered her State of the Division Address on Independence Day highlighting the gains while exhorting the teaching and non-teaching personnel to confront and surmount the challenges in the school year 2018-2019.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo paid tribute to the industry, enthusiasm and dedication of the 968-strong City Deped family led by Dr. Luminarias not only in educating the young but also in the various activities jointly implemented by the city and the division.
For School Year 2018-2019, some 14, 942 students are enrolled in the elementary level; 6, 368 in Junior High School and 1, 770 in Senior High School. This marked an increase of enrollment in all levels compared to previous school years.
Dr. Luminarias also pointed out that the division has introduced interventions that will significantly reduce the dropout rate while continually increasing the cohort survival and completion rates.
Big and sustained strides are also noted in capability building, trainings and workshops for mentors in all field subjects including ICT and research.
Luminarias lauded the administration of Mayor Remollo for investing P 2.1 million in the acquisition of ICT hardware; P 4 million for the various expenses in the City Meet, CVRAA and Palarong Pambansa including cash incentives for outstanding athletes from P 2, 000 to P 10, 000 for each medal won in the regional and national Palaro and funding for the improvement of school facilities.
Dumaguete City placed 3rd out of 19 divisions in the Regional Science and Technology Fair while athletes won 9 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals in archery, lawn tennis, swimming and football during the recent Palarong Pambansa held in Vigan Ilocos Sur.
The division also received donations from private organization and government agencies such as $ 42, 000 worth of ICT hardware from Rotary International and another P 761, 000 from DOST; school buildings, among others.
Luminarias is optimistic that with the support of the local government under Mayor Remollo, the City Schools division will deliver excellent and enhanced service to the learners while upholding the welfare of the mentors.
