Chito Gonzales Tournament Director of Little League Philippines confirms that Dumaguete City is now the permanent home for the league in the Visayas regions.

This is in recognition to the enthusiastic support of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo to the grassroots baseball and softball programs with the firm belief that our athletes have the potentials to be world champions.

All 17 teams have already arrived from Bohol, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Dumaguete, Ilo-ilo and Northern Samar and are billeted in some hotels and Piapi Elementary School.

The teams paid a courtesy call to the City Council prior to the press briefing.

Games in all divisions will begin tomorrow, Thursday, 7:00 AM at the RUSI Ball field. Championship matches will be held on Sunday, May 20.

BASEBALL: minors (8-10 years old), majors (10-12 years old), juniors (12-14 years old), seniors (13-16 years old)

SOFTBALL: majors (8-10 years old), juniors (10-12 years old) and seniors (12-14 years old)

The top two teams will compete in the national finals against the top teams from Luzon and Mindanao at Cabuyao, Laguna. The ultimate winners will represent the Philippines to the Asia Pacific championship in Singapore and the host Philippines.

The Little League Visayas Leg Qualifiers, hosted by the City will hold its opening ceremony on Thursday, 4:00 PM at the Pantawan sa Rizal Boulevard.

Councilor Michael Bandal said that the hosting of Little League Visayas reinforces the city’s thrust to make it the next sports tourism hub in the region.
