Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo led local dignitaries in welcoming today the fifteen (15) countries that are represented by their respective cultural dance groups: China, Indonesia, England, Korea, Hongkong, Bangladesh, USA, Malaysia, India, Hawaii, Russia, Poland, Thailand, Japan and Turkey.
There are also 25 participating dance groups coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are also in attendance.
Mayor Remollo lauded the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Dance Xchange Founder Shirley Halili-Cruz for choosing Dumaguete City as host of the 2018 international dance workshop and festival from April 26-29 in recognition to the city’s great tradition in promoting dance as a performing art.
Vice-Governor Mark Macias, Board Member Mariant Escano-Villegas (who is one of the chief organizers in Dumaguete City), City Tourism Officer Jacqueline Antonio and Dr. Henry Sojor were also present during the opening ceremony at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.
Besides the workshops, the various local and international dance troupes will conduct outreach performances not only in Dumaguete City but also in the neighboring towns and cities.
Members of the public are encouraged to watch for free the live performances and experience the foreign cultures as expressed in their distinct national dances in the following schedule:
