Proposed Sanitary Landfill Site in Barangay Candau-ay passes 7 of 13 parameters based on the site assessment by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The city government now awaits the assessment of the Mines and Geo Sciences Bureau to further improve its score.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo is determined to build the sanitary landfill in the 3.5 hectare lot if approved by the DENR to finally close the Candau-ay dumpsite, which is already 30-years old and poses health hazard and inconvenience to the greater majority of city residents.

The city is committed to implement the safe closure and rehabilitation plan of the existing dumpsite even if it is estimated to cost the LGU some P 7.7 million.
