Shorline protection, not reclamation
Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo clarified that the current construction project at the Rizal Boulevard is part of the shorline protection program and not reclamation per se that would require Environmental Compliance Certificate from the Department of Environment.
Mayor Remollo said that the ongoing project involves only 600 meters. Due to climate change waters from the Dumaguete Bay has been slowly inundating the boulevard walkway and even to the main streets.
The new edifice, which is expected to be completed end of this year or early next year, will also serve as a view deck and will also expand the boulevard for visitors, joggers and walkers.
